Upon arrival to this wine bar I was very impressed by the layout and ambiance of the location. Situated at 27 Rue de Marignan it is just steps away from the tourist attraction of Champs-Elysees and the uber posh avenue Montaigne. There is a huge room downstairs in the basement that makes for a more intimate experience with groups. Decked out with chairs and sofas, this is a perfect place to drink, indulge, and converse with friends. Now on to the wine!
The concept is very interesting, they have self service machines with a large variety of wines from different regions. You can choose from 2 to 3 different glass sizes in a touch screen (which also indicates the price of each), the smallest size is a tasting serving, this way you can just taste the wine and if you like it you can get more or move on to the next. Also you can take your time reading the labels and choosing the wine that you would enjoy the most or have fun trying a lot of different ones. They offer a good variety of wines from other European countries as well.
How does it work? is you load your card given to you by the wine bar with the amount you desire, then you can try and drink wine until your heart’s desire with the amount you have available. If you still have credit and you have had enough wine its ok, you can take it with you and use it another day, the credit doesn’t expire.
This bar also offers a selection of cheese and charcuterie plates to be enjoyed with the wines, its a very generous plate so it is worth the price. There is also a Champagne happy hour that begins at 17H at a price of 10 euros, and a decent size glass might I add.
This place offers a great concept I think but the service is not great, as soon as we arrived the person in charged did not make an effort to great us or tell us about recommendations or even informed us about the Champagne Happy Hour, we had to ask for it and he didn’t try to make any wine recommendations for us. This is definitely an issue and something to be improved because wine tasting should be an experience and it would give the place a plus if they offer some help to the customers. Its the minimum that a restaurant or any establishment can do, offer a decent customer service if they want the clients to keep coming back and enjoy the place.
Wine by One offers two locations, one in 9 Rue des Capucines and another 27 Rue de Marignan. The atmosphere is very fresh, modern and elegant perfect for a relaxing evening after work or to meet with friends.
